Case fan, has only two wires red and black, where can I connect that?

I got a fonsan 12volt cooling fan, .18A. The question is that it only has two wires coming out a black and a red, how can I connect this into the power in my case (antec sx830)?

i take it you just have the untailed leads. if that's the case then you just need to pick up a molex conector and the appropriate pins. check out CaseETC or swing buy your local radioshack. i'm not sure if radioshack stocks those parts, but it's worth a shot. as you can see from the pictures, the male molex piece fits into the female molex piece. buy the same pins as connector and your good to go.

Actually it's not the untailed leads. It has a connector on it that looks somewhat like half of a hard drive power supply connecter. any ideas?

It's a non-standard connector. Cut it off and do what tetsuo says, but connect the positive lead to the yellow molex and negative to any black. That will give you a full 12V DC

Male. All the power supply molex connectors are female.

addendum: if you're going to cut off the other piece, make sure you remember to strip the wire so it's exposed for the molex pin. wouldn't work to well with that shielding over it...

Thanks all, Does RadioShack carry molex brand? Also will the molex piece have pins in it or do I gotta get the pins seperately?

I have not seen PC/ATX Molex connectors at RS. Pin inclusion depends on the package...

Actually, if you've got a 2-pin connector on there like the Panaflo's or Adda's, you can snip off a bit of plastic and connect it to your standard 3-pin connector. Hot to hot, ground to ground, sensing to nothing. You can use a fan header on your mobo or 4-3 pin converter / passthrough.

I don't buy molex connectors for mine, I just bend the bare leads back against the insulation and stick them into the connnector from the power supply.

Or another solution - make or order a fanbus Check here for info on bulding or ordering a fanbus.


a fanbus is nice because you get rid of a lot of the unsightly molex connectors and it frees up molex connectors for devices where you have no choice but to use them.
