I just got my p180 and ninja scythe ... any suggestions on how many case fans I would need and what CPU I need?

Also, what type of cfm should I target for?

If you're going for silence, these work well. Even better with a fan controller.

Yate Loon

Now that I've added an X1900XT to my system combined with a OCed dual core Opteron, I'm finding that they don't move enough air. :(

bummer, I was hoping the artic silencer 4 would take care of the heat from the vid. card ... I read that anywhere from 30-40cfm should be more than enough for the ninja?

You don't need any fans other than what came with it unless you're doing something out on the edge.

I only added one fan to mine, and that probably wasn't even necessary.

You're correct about the cfm for the Ninja. The YL I linked is a good canidate for your CPU. And if you're not running a X1900XT or another hot gpu, they should work for your case.

The new variable in my system is the X1900XT. It's a blast furnace. Even though it exhausts out the back of the case, it still raises my case temps alot. Load temps in the mid to high 80s celcius!

After gaming for about an hour, even with low ambiant temps, my Aud2 will start crackling and popping. This is new with the X1900XT. If I remove the side panel, the problem goes away. I think I'm going to put the stock Antec fans back in and set them on high to see if a higher cfm will help.

You're right, there's nothing wrong with the stock fans. But if your goal is making your case as quiet as possible, getting fans like I linked to, especially if undervolted, will be an improvement.

Nexus orange for the blow hole (noise path is more direct if it's under a desk)
Yate loon or akasa 1400RMP fan for the rear, maybe a 1600RPM if you're noise tolerant.
Move spare stock fans to front and set on lowest speed.
Keep the stock for lower bay on low or medium.
AC silencer for the GPU, tape up the rear exhausts (as they act as intakes)

Move HDs to the lower bay, look at the airflow conditions at the rear of the case. If the hot air is bottled up there then you're going to run into trouble.

The CFM over the Ninja will obviously have a variable effect on cooling, up to a certain point. There are a variety of sites on the Net which provide delta celcius/ Watt produced at different CFM. This is invaluable data for you. Either way, > 40 CFM is unlikely to do much more than blow the curtains around in your computer room... As for specific fan, I like lostBob's Nexus fans. Also, check out www.silentpcreview.com, where they have a very good review of the P180 in a variety of fan configurations (obviously with an emphasis on low noise). The rig below (my sig) is VERY quiet - though not quite as silent as a lesser powered Sonata case I outfitted with an A8NSLI, Athlon 3200+ and a Zalman 7000AlCu. In any circumstance EXCEPT late-night computing, BOTH cases are virtually silent.
Best of luck
