Case Cooling Questions Concerns

Hi, I own a ZTSystems PC:
ZT Sysytems 7391Mi
Intel i7 Processor 870 (2.93GHz)
8GB DDR3RAM
sataII 1.5TB HDD
sapphire ATI radeon HD 5670 1GB DDR5
350watt (400watts peak) Delta PSU
Windows 7 64bit Home Edition.
foot print is a fulltower case with a ATX PSU
specs from PSU
voltage current frequency
115/230 10a/5a 50-60mhz
+3.3 +5 12v1 12v2

139 watts max 18a max
Ventilation: rear od case 3" exhaust fan in PSU
directly below PSU is another 3" exhaust fan
left side of case is ventilated for air intake funnel inside case that covers large fan on top of i7 2.93 quad CPU

Most stressful software i run is Real FLight G5 flight simulator

Recently I installed a Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5670 1GB DDR5 DVI/HDMI video adapter and today i installed accompanying software, Catalyst.
Catalyst contains an overclocking utility which include GPU utilization, temperture and fan GPU fan speed.

When I compare the GPU temperature on my PC to results posted on Tom's hardware I'm concerned.

Catalyst reports, at idle, the GPU temperature is 40-43C and under load, running Real Flight, GPU temperature is up to 63C. at idle GPU fan speed is "0" even the GPU temperature is 40-43C.
Under load GPU fan utilization could be almost 100 percent.

tomshardware reports this card's temperature is 15.2C at idle and 46.2C under load.

What could be causing these high temperatures? Are they dangerous?
Could the PSU, stressed, generating additional heat?

Catalyst utility has an option "unlock" that'll allow me increase increase fan time.
if the temperatures I posted ar too hot.

What can i do to lower interior temperature?

I googled delta temperature but couldn't find a meaning. Are you writing Tomshardware temperature are some how different real world use?

Are the temperatures i posted unusually hot?
 
You haven't told us what kind of case you have. If it's an old one, perhaps link to a picture.

If you use your psu fan for case ventilation you are feeding warm air to something you want cool.

You have spent a lot of money on a top-of-the-line psu. Now it's probably time to get a modern case, with the psu on the bottom where it gets an independent source of fresh air.

Three inch fans don't cut it anymore.

Measure the temps in your computer room. That is your ambient temp. Subtract that from the temps you are getting and you will have something you can compare to reviews.

By delta, he meant "change from" the ambient.

So when Toms reported 15.2C delta at idle, that means if the ambient is 25C, then the card actually idled at 40.2C.

Since the ambient temps will vary from one place to another, just reporting the absolute idle and load temps will not be helpful at all. So instead, the ambients are stated and the deltas are reported. This way, knowing your own ambient temps, you can ascertain how hot the card can get with a reasonable degree of certainty.

Your temps are fine. 43C idle and 63C load is very cool for a video card. You just misunderstood the temp readings from Tom's. You have nothing to worry about.

Any recommendations that I install it?

that software is a standard tool. if you do like it uninstall it.

i have never read a thing about it doing any harm.

except it helps to lead you down the enthusiast path. it's a kind of fun that is very hard to resist

Those temps are still pretty cool. It has already been explained to you.

Perhaps to help put your mind at ease, consider the following:
1.) GPUs are designed to run much hotter than CPUs
2.) GPUs running at high 80s - 90s are not uncommon at all.
3.) My 4770 idles at 50C, and Fallout 3 / Dragon Age can take it up to >70C

You have nothing to worry about. Your temps are very good.
 
You're fine, all your temps are checking out. I'd only be concerned if it goes anything higher than 70C. Even then, thats not even bad for a high end radeon, just make sure you don't let it get too hot.
 
Great, it's been idling 40-43 and under Real Flight load maxes at 63C,
so i'm a happy camper.
