Case cooling question

It seems like almost all cases have a honeycombed opening for the fan holes. Is that the most efficient and the quietest? I was thinking about cutting that out and replacing it with a grill. Seems like more air can go through the opening and would cut down on noise. Or am I totally wrong? Thanks

Ok, the bigger the hole is (grill vs honeycomb) the air gets through. So you would get more air and you would get more noise.

Okay. I guess I was thinking along the lines that the honeycombed shape would add some turbulence to the air flow. Maybe my thinking was off.

I don't really know, but it makes sense to me. Ideally, you'd just have a big circular hole where the fan is. But then you have the blades exposed...

Your thinking is right, grills add turbulence, ie; noise. Cut! The best grill is none, if you must use one wire grills are best, if you want bling I would suggest this, I used 2 in my new build for the top mounted rad.
