Does anybody know how to mod the CDROM so it will "pop" out, like the one seen here. It's in the middle of the page and is on an all silver case.

the way i see it is that they removed the front bezel(?) of the cd rom drive, attached a 5.75" bay cover on the top of the loading tray with a pin or something attached to the back of it to hit the button. so they just hit the bottom right of it to open it. keep in mind that removing the front bezel removes the outer button, so the pin would be hitting the actual button on the pcb of the cdrom drive. also keep in mind that hitting the button will push the whole tray out, including what was pushed, so your hand would have to move away quickly or it will block it from opening. but then again they don't open that quickly, so it probably isn't a problem. they also probably had to drill new holes in the bay to push the cdrom drive back a bit. another thing they could've done was just attach the bay cover, skip the whole button thing, and use software to open the drive.

This mod isn't that hard to do.. first you take one of the bay covers and take off the 4 little tabs that hold it onto the case then make sure it can be pushed out easily.. then pull out the tray on the drive so you can glue or even just tape the cover to it.. then install the drive recessed in the bay with the cover where it would have been.. anyways thats the simplified instructions.. with this mod you can't use the button anymore tho you have to use eject in the menu..
also saw a mod somewhere else where a guy did this only he used a hinge on the covers instead of attaching them to the tray.. I'll link to it if I can find it..
pbrain has a point tho with the button thing.. hmm maybe the hinge is the best solution..

Thanks for the info. But you you think that you can push the cd rom far enough to fit the edge of one of those brezels in? Cause it looks on my case that the screws are pretty close to the "back"....

It's not to hard to drill your own holes if you have a Dremel.. otherwise most drives barely need the screws anyway if the cage is designed well enough..
