Case causing radio reflections?

I just purchased a new case, a Lian-Li PC-7B plus. After installing my old system into it, i noticed that the wireless card was not working correctly. I had been having issues previously - attaching the ariel causes a loss of signal, so i keep it unattached, and sometimes a lot of packets would be dropped between the router and the PC. I now find that with the new case, when the side panel is put on, the ping jumps to about 150ms when pinging the router, and about 1 in 5 packets are lost.

I have tried another card from a seperate machine which also exhibits the same problems when the side panel is put on, and I have tried various PCI slots. Has anyone experienced this issue before, and does anyone know of a fix?
