Case and cooling for Dual Processor AMD Opty??

Hi guys,

I am about to build a couple of new workstations for photo editing, I want them to be cool and quiet, with room for atleast 7 hard disks and two DVD drives. Two graphics cards, not for SLI but for running two screens, that I can color calibrate.

so what is the consensus today, good roomy case with good cooling.

I would appreciate feedback from people with similar systems, thanks

thanks

I have that in my Chenbro SR107 box, but still a bit noisy, I tried replacing them with quieter one's but not quiet to the job. This is in my older box K8WE 2x 250 8x sca

Welcome to the AT forums.

Where do you live - don't want to recommend something that may not be available where you are. But as a first shot I'd say the original Stacker (STC-T01) with an extra 4-in-3 HDD module.

hi and thanks

I am in western Australia, Perth.

A long way from anywhere 🙂 but I should be able have things shipped in one way or the other

thanks

Have you considered going with a quad core Xeon or Kentsfield? Those will kill the Opteron in price/performance in Photoshop.

yes, its all up in the air atm...though I am currently thinking that even though the Xeon's are fastest today, with Socket F i can just replace the CPU's when AMD's Quads comes out and thereby reduce the TCO..i could be wrong.

Also it seems from my research so far that the AMD scale better with more ram, plan is to add more then 16gb later.

However, if you know something I don't please share, I am all ears!

Yes, i think something like a Lian Li 2100+ would be a nice big case, but pricy...yeah right you might say when one is already spending 10k for each box ;-) what are a few dollars between friends ;-)

I also have a PC-70 Lian Li case, for an old box which is nice too, so I am a bit bias towards the Lian Li, I must say, i just would like to hear if there is something better

thanks

Henrik
