Casablanca is fucking awesomely awesme.

Citizen Kane is great. many call it the best, but, its not as funny or charming as Casablanca. And Bogey + Bergman is unbeatable.

Gone with The Wind, Ehh, its a classic, great story, but, it doesn't have the staying power, or the charisma.

Casablanca to me is a perfect 10/10 jewel in the rough.
Citizen Kane, while one of the greatest of all time, doesnt have quite the same level of replayability.

Wow. Lot of grumpy old men here! (and Shorty)

I'm a lot older than you Shorty (and probably a few more of you), and I grew up on these movies back when we only had three channels and they all stopped broadcasting after Carson was over. I've seen them all (over & over & over). But as years go past, the become less relevant to all but film buffs.

Bergman does nothing for me. She's no Hedy Lamarr

Well, now you have me all confused.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who things that Gone with the Wind is way over rated.
Of your three I'll watch Casablanca twice to every viewing of Citizen Kane (but I'll still watch Kane) but if I had my choice I would watch The Big Sleep before any of them.

Casablanca

I couldn't sit through Gone with the Wind. People say it's great but frankly my dear, I don't give a damn.

Jesus, Casablanca and it's not even remotely close. I mean, it's hard for me to imagine the torture of having to re-watch Gone With The Wind again, but Casablanca is freaking amazing.

As for the poll, I voted Citizen Kane because it's better than either of the other ones.

I prefer Casablanca to Citizen Kane, but that might be because I'm a WWII junkie and I like Casablanca's setting. I thought Citizen Kane was overrated personally.

This x 1000. I'm taking my wife to see Casablanca with a performance by the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra on Valentine's Day and it should be epic.

No, Casablanca is definitely better. More interesting characters, more interesting story, more quotable, more fun. Citizen Kane is one of those movies that you have to say you like because it's a classic, but no one is pining to rewatch it; I'll rewatch Casablanca once or twice a year.

Definitely. My wife got me the anniversary edition blu ray of Casablanca for Christmas one year and it definitely gets watched regularly.

Oh I disagree. Casablanca is a blast, but I freaking love Kane. Just amazingly crafted and a great story with excellent acting; I can watch it whenever. Of course I do have a bit of a fascination with Hearst, so that probably contributes to my love of the film.

I agree, but which version of The Big Sleep would you watch? 1945 or 1946?

What the flip man. Casablanca was so mediocre. I barely felt anything for the characters and the acting wasn't all that great.

Gone with the wind was epic.

Been so long since I have seen any of them, but GWTW is just too freakin long( TMI alert
a GF wanted to watch it in the late 80's and it was 2 Beta tapes long!, fortunately we got real high halfway through and had sex
:D ). I vaguely remember a few scenes of Kane and only the 1 iconic saying good-bye on the runway scene of Casablanca. Whenever I think about Casablanca I usually remember things from other Bogart films, although I can't quite recall their titles. Bogart was and still is the man though, just a great actor.

If anyone has kids, they should really show them these movies and other Classics. There's no worry of content being inappropriate and it really gives a great sense of time, in the sense that there's a clear progression within film, both in technology, but also style and content. That said, even way back then there were absolutely excellent Actors/Actresses that many still try to emulate today.

Hedy Lamarr might well be the most extraordinary actress ever.

She was labeled the most beautiful woman of her time (and I agree with skimple, maybe all time). She acted in a movie called Ecstasy, which appropriately enough was the first non-porn movie to depict sex (some say even the first to show nudity, but I'm not sure of that).

But more importantly, she invented the spectrum spread technology, just to beat the Nazis. So the Wifi we all enjoy today? We owe it to her.

Casablanca is a classic for all ages - and has a high rewatchability factor.
Can't stand that Scarlett character, personally. Terrible human being.
Citizen Kane was a trailblazer - when you realize how many new cinematic techniques Welles pioneered in this film, you'll be amazed.

Oh yeah, I know about the real Hedy (very fascinating woman).

...but mine was a response to the "Hedly Lammar" character in Blazing Saddles, which he posted, and the running gag throughout..
