CAS2 RAM??

What exactly is CAS 2 RAM? I keep hearing about as well as CAS 3 RAM... what is the difference?

I got this program that told me that my "CAS # Latency = 2 clocks" does that mean that my RAM is CAS 2 or what?, i am really confused, so any input is appreciated...

Thanks, Trek

Hey Trek8900

Check out this web address...

http://www.corsairmicro.com/main/trg-cas.html

CAS is acronym for "Column Address Strobe" and refers to "CAS Latency" meaning the delay (latency)
that it takes to access memory columns. Thus, CAS 2 memory is faster than CAS 3 memory in that there is only a 2
clock cycles delay as opposed to 3.

Whenever you buy memory these days, you'll usually see it marketed as PC133 CL2 or PC133 CL3 etc. That's pretty much why CAS 2 is usually a bit more expensive.

Hope that helps,

This is what crucial.com has to say:

This refers to the latency of the parts, or the amount of time it takes for the memory to respond to a command. Latency is measured in terms of clock cycles and is often noted as CL2 (two clock cycles) or CL3 (three clock cycles). For most applications there is very little difference in performance between CL2 and CL3 parts.

Hope that helps. Basically, there isnt much of a difference between CAS2 and 3. At least not one that is very notable.
