CAS2 or 3???

Which would be faster, PC100 CAS2, or PC133 CAS3???

My instincts are telling me the CAS2. I just wish I could find some good 133 CAS2 for <$128

PC133 CAS3 will be faster due to the faster clock speed , but remember CAS2 is always faster then CAS3 at the same clock speed ie,(PC100 CAS2 IS FASTER THEN PC100 CAS3).

If its a quality PC133 CAS3, you can tweak it a little bit to make it run at CAS2, doesn't change the fact that it's CAS3 rated, but if it works, you get more power. However this is not guarranteed, but it's certainly a good try and even if it doesnt go, PC133 CAS3 will still be better.

There was another thread on this same topic recently that you might search for.

The answer is that RAM @ 133 MHz & CAS 3-3-3 gives better performance than RAM @ 100 MHz & CAS 2-2-2, because the faster bus speed more than compensates for any increase in latency.

CAS2 RAM performance vs. CAS3 is worth only about 3% or the equivalent to 20-30 MHz. The benefit of CAS2 RAM is sometimes overestimated. Depending on your planned CPU, how much RAM you need and whether you are overclocking, you might be better off getting the next faster CPU than RAM with less latency.

When it comes to overall system performance CAS 2 will give you about a 2-7 percent increase. On memory performance alone, you get closer to a 17% increase.
