hey,

im getting very close to purchasing my next dual system, and i'm planning on going with mushkin memory. however, i now see they offer a 512mb stick rated at 2-2-2, vs the previous one (that i was planning on before) rated 2-3-3.

i know the CAS has to do with timing, etc, but will i really see much difference by laying down the extra cash?

it will be in a 1800 mpx system, doing video editing in xp pro.

i tried searching for any questions like this but came up null (disclaimer since people love to flame about this kind of thing =P).

thanks,

well changing from 3-3-3-7 on my p3 1ghz to 2-2-2-5 gives me 20-30 minute lower seti@home times...

Although I can't argue with the real world numbers that gosharks put up, everything that I read says that the difference it the numerous ram latencies is mere billionths of a second. If this is true, I don't see how anyone could really tell the difference. Also, I'm sure this has been discussed many times before so I'd search it to see what others have to say.

Back in the 20th century when I ran my Celeron400@500 on an Abit BX6 2.0 I was able to gain about 2-3 FPS in Quake 3 going from CAS3 to CAS2. So yes there are real world benefits they range from not much to almost nothing but they are there :).

Microsoft - because choices are confusing

LOL

OMG that's awesome, Microsoft really should think about adopting that as their new slogon, it's the only one to make sense thus far....

I switched out the CAS3 Dell shipped in my laptop to CAS2 from Crucial... If I remember right, my RAM performance on sisoft sandra went from about 350MB/s to a little over 400MB/s.

I seem to remember running a test myself cuz I was curious about real world differences too. I think I got 3 - 5 more FPS running the same QuakeIII demo on the same exact system but with the memory timing set to CAS2 vs CAS3.
