I was wondering what the deal is with cars with a salvaged title. How do they work with insurance? Can you get the same coverage as you could for a car with a clean title? Basically, what are the downsides to owning one? I found a car I wanted, and the reason it is salvaged is because it was stolen and the interior was stripped, nothing else.. it's a great deal but I am worried about insurance... thanks for the info!

hmm...

Some states I believe you need to have a permit to be able to restore a salvage, you might want to make sure of that first.

Many times you cannot get full coverage on a car with salvage title. Liability only.

Resale value on a car with salvage title is less and its harder to attract potential buyers. I mean, if I went looking at a car and knew it had a salvage title, I would put this car at the way bottom of my list. Salvage titles equate major damage to a car in most instances. Would you want to put your family in a car whose structural integrity might be compromised?

what about if the car was salvaged because it was in a hurricane or something and had flooded. The electrical system is never the same on a car that has been flooded.

Salvage titled cars generally have more risk than "normal" cars and so insurance companies dont want to deal with them.
