Harmer turned down a proposal from an unnamed national "megaretailer who wants to get into the auto business."

"We don't want to be the pioneer" of a new type of auto retailing, he said. Harmer has no business experience in auto retailing other than Geely.

Car purchase programs are nothing better than a shrewd consumer could negotiate for themselves.
Walmart needs to stick with selling diapers and groceries. Leave the car selling to the pros. 🙂

maybe they are going to buy Carmax? I heard that a lot of states have laws making it very hard to start an auto dealership and that the car companies can't just sell dealer rights to people to start a dealership since they have contracts with current dealers.

Presumably that is why this retailer is going after foreign manufacturers that don't have a US presence yet.
