Cars and ride quality...

Can anyone with experience driving different cars give me some feedback as to which ones are the most comfortable in ride quality? They must still have good acceleration and handling. (Below 35k)

I'm no expert, but I thought handling and ride quality tended to be mutually exclusive? Short of something like an active suspension.

You could always get a Crown Vic and tell everyone it has the "police package" 😉.

Try getting a good handling car and cut out a big piece of foam to sit on to cushion your butt?

I am going to get flamed for this, but whenever i think of Crown Victoria. Probably the only car I'd even think of getting if I was going to get a car. In most cars (including the camry and accord) the steering wheel has to sit between my legs which is very uncomfortable. Crown Vic, I dont have to. So yes, its biased, and flammable but I do LOVE the Crown Vics. The ride is also very comfortable for me.

Of the midsize sedans I test drove
Malibu , 6 , Accord, Sebring, nothing floats like a boat like a Camry
Mushy ride and handling but comfy on the ass

Although it's close/over your price cap. I like the way my TL rides. It's a comfy ride but not floaty or disconnected from the road type of ride. If you can forgive the FWD aspect, it has good acceleration and fairly good handling for its size. My STi on the hand rides rough but hauls and sticks to the road, compared the TL is a nice compromise for long trips with more than 2 people.

i'd be looking at toyota sedans if you want comfort. you will not get good handling out of them, though. if you're looking for a compromise, then you're looking at other japanese brands in that price range. i suppose you might be able to get a Mercedes C-class for that price.

What do you mean by good ride quality & good handling? Many people have very different viewpoints on this.

Unfortunately I've not driven then, but from what I've read the Legacy GT might fit your bill. It is meant to be sort of a "mid-luxury" car I would say, with a suspension that is comfortable yet doesn't make it drive like a boat. Good acceleration is there, 0-60 5.3s. All the bells & whistles you could want; leather, heated seats, stereo, remote keyless, dual zone climate (I think), etc. MSRP is like $28K, I hear them going off the lot for about $25-26K.

The Legacy GT/spec.B would probably be a good fit for what you are looking for. AWD and decent power to boot.

I didn't much care for the way the GT rode because I thought it felt a little floaty (at the time though my STi was my primary driver so most things feel floaty compared), whereas the spec.B was a much nicer ride. Firm but comfortable.

Thanks for the opinions. Right now I have an 06 Accord V6 which I simply find way too firm for its lacklustre handling abilities. It just doesn't absorb the bumps well enough, kind of hard to explain. Seems like the car is a little too "light". I'll probably keep it for 6 months to a year then trade it in for something a bit more comfortable.

I guess the only way to truly find out for myself is to take some of the cars mentioned for a long test drive.

I'm partial to the Lincoln Town Car (pre 1998).

You will not find better ride quality anywhere.

My Maxima rides well and handles well.

agreed. the Maxima has a great ride and good power, I have an i30 (which is basically a maxima), and it is very comfortable on long trips.

As a brand in general? Probably Honda.

If you want the a good blend of those 3 items you mentioned, then check out the Legacy GT
