Cars is evidently popular with the fanatical car collector set (friend is a fanatical car collector, collects Isetta's). I understand that the attention to detail is much admired.

3 year old really liked it b/c would have said he loved it if they just brought out Lightning and Mater and had them drive around for an hour doing silly things.

So he's seen Mater's Tall Tales

I'll probably see Cars 2. Although, I spent the whole first movie saying, "he wants you to drift, you stupid car!"

EDIT:

It also doesn't help that I think that now that I'm a southerner, it's a law that we have to find Larry the Cable Guy funny no matter what he says 😱.

I really enjoyed Cars. both my daughters loved it as well. I really don't see all the hate for it here considering all the other movies are about princesses. Save the TS series.

Interesting. I liked Cars 1, especially considering how many just hated it.

This may be Pixar's very first critical flop? (It'll be a fuckton commercial success for sure).

It's still early, and again... IMO the first Cars wasn't rated that good (for Pixar) at low 70s. So it's not a huge difference.

Cars was really the only Pixar movie to not live up to their reputation for me. Overall I really don't like sequels because they're so rarely done well and this seems like such a blatant cash grab, but I will definitely give it the benefit of the doubt being that it's Pixar.

Considering Cars was one of Pixar's worst received movies, the bar isn't exactly set all that high, however I'd say no, because Cars is a lame premise to begin with.

Will see it, I have two boys in the age range, five and two. In fact, the two year old is obsessed with it. It's going to be a long week since the advertising is everywhere--literally. One of his first words was "Cars".

I say they've already accomplished that with Toy Story 3.

TS2>TS>TS3 yeah, sorry. TS was OK, but honestly it was a little flat and tired. They had already pretty much used up the 'toy retirement pathos' by the end of TS2.

I can think of zero unplanned sequels which were even good, much less better than a good first effort.

Someone start naming names (to shoot down).

It almost seems with Pixar movies it doesn't matter what the "critics" say, people will flock to them anyway. still worth the money if you have a kid (especially a boy) in the targeted age range.

Every Pixar movie is highly rated so not sure that's applicable.

44% rotten on Rotten Tomatoes. Guess this will be regarded as Pixar's first 'flop'.

Still seeing it tomorrow night though. I'm sure it'll still be enjoyable.
