Saturday I was called back early from my lunch break, so I had to carry my lunch past all my coworkers.

I rarely bring lunch back to work, partly because of all the attention it gets. Every single time I have ever carried food to my office I get comments on the way like “Ohh! Whatcha got there?” or “That smells good. I hope you brought enough for all of us.”

Well, except for my choice of food, Saturday was no different. I got at least three comments along the way. One particular comment stuck out “Ohhh, that looks good. I’m goin’ to [CZroe]’s place for dinner!”

Know what it was everyone was raving about?

Chicken-flavor, Maruchan Ramen Noodles and some canned corn.

Noodles were mostly dry because I wasn’t done cooking them before I left (absorbed the water).

I literally made the noodles because the corn had way too much pepper even after draining (inedible). Before that the plan was to just eat canned corn so... yeah: a real gourmet chef here, folks!

I was amused enough to take an actual picture of my former meal, like it was Instagram or something:

Has anyone ever invited people to dinner then served their guests Maruchan?

Eh, what the hell? I can afford it: YOU’RE ALL INVITED!

I would accept your offer but I got some hamburger left over from last night.

That does look kind of good. Might try that myself sometime. Adds a little more bulk to the noodles.

I must say, it’s better than hearing this “joke” again:
“Oh, [CZroe], you brought me lunch? You shouldn’t have!”

Ugh.

Hahahahah hillarious

That said, Maruchan is great as a base ...

It's super easy to fry up some mushrooms & onions, then add some garlic, then some water, then add a bit of miso, some bonito flakes, and some gochujang, and simmer a bit, then, add a hard boiled egg. Add some corn or whatever weggies you want.

Complete by adding the spice packet and the noodles from the Maruchan and you are golden.

Easy 15 min ramen that tastes way better than plain Maruchan, though It obviously con't compare to anything with a real stock base.

Interesting. See, I’m on lunch again right now and I was about to substitute a little of this for the flavor packet when you posted that...

Clearly, mashing up a clove if garlic is too much work for me. I’m such a lazy cook I use this stuff with Texas Toast, unsalted butter, and a pop-up toaster to make my garlic bread.

Edit: I guess “Mixed Vegetables” means “almost entirely carrots.”

That was the first thing I thought of...
Until this time, it’s been that or some other derivation every... single... time.

“What’d you bring us this time, [CZroe]?”

Get a box that would be used to store office supplies (maybe print paper?) and put the food in there to carry it.

Now coworkers will wonder why you go through so much paper... lol.

Actually I find that annoying too, people who are nosy and always have to comment about every little thing. My workplace is somewhat bad for that too. God forbid you show up a minute late you won't hear the end of it.

This reminds me of one of my favorite articles about IT ever:

The fact that the computer guy never gets a moment’s peace can also practically force him to withdraw into solitude. His co-workers don’t understand that he doesn’t want to hear about their computer problems during his lunch hour — he does that every other hour of the day. That’s why the computer guy eats lunch alone with his door closed, or goes out to eat every day — not because he’s unfriendly, but because he needs to escape the incessant interruptions.

What time should I be over for dinner?
Doesn’t matter. I’ll leave a key under the mat. Help yourself to my noodles and stove.

metal utensil in a nonstick pan? heathen!
I only used the fork as a make-shift colander to drain my noodles. I was almost lazy enough to eat it out of the pot but I poured it into a bowl instead.

Totally feel this. Most recently, my brother and I gave a new phone to our sister on the other side of the country. It works almost exactly like her old phone (they’re both iPhones), but that doesn’t matter.

What matters is that any problem she has using or setting up the new phone or anything she doesn’t know how to do is some frustration or disruption in her life that she “can’t take right now” ...and it’s somehow our fault. She acts like we forced an unwanted phone on her when it was something we all agreed she needed (old phone no longer received updates).

Of course, if it’s supposedly our fault, then she openly demands that we have to help her with it and it has to be when she is able to sit down for a walk-through. She complained and moaned and demanded that we schedule several hours of help sessions, which is a HUGE disruption for us... even just the discussions leading up to it. Luckily, I was able to dump all of this on my brother but I definitely heard his frustration.

I get mega-pissed if anyone bothers me even 20 minutes before lunch. Seems like some people love to wait until 11:45a.m. to bring up a big problem.

Nobody ever comments on my food, even though I always cook the best stuff. :(

Who needs hours of walk throughs for a slightly newer iphone?

It was exactly that sort of thing that made me stop building computers for family. I even put my dad's S6 in dumb mode so he wouldn't break/get confused by it.

So you're a video editor CZ ?
Guess there’s no reason to cover that up with an off-center magnifying lens anymore.

It’s more cutting things down for archival/documentation and less about fancy editing, which is why my YouTube stuff is so cringe-worthy. ;)
