Getting close now...

The wife is getting ansy for another and the Z won't cut it for 2 kiddo's. What's a guy to do? Porsche 911. Just can't figure out if I should spring for the extra's that the S model offers.

PLEASE don't come in here telling me about different cars.

Any Porsche guys have anything to offer about the 2 afforementioned cars?

Edit*** here she is

Couple pics for now since I got home from work later than I'd like and had some stuff to do

A 911's backseats are strictly for emergency cases if you ask me unless you are very short people or have no legs.

Anyways, it's up to you whether the price difference is worth the 35 hp.

I did say it was for kiddos.

They have car seats made for 911's

They're not PDK only.

Only buy an auto if it's a 2009+ so it's PDK not tiptronic. And I'd definitely recommend the 09+, even though I'm sure it costs more. It's just a much better car than the 08... the 2009 has a new and far superior engine than the 2008 and earlier, better suspension, has tons of other upgrades to the interior including better PCM (the factory stereo/nav stuff). The 2008 and earlier cars don't even have ipod hookups.

The S has better suspension and brakes. PASM (active shocks with a Sport button) and Sports Chrono (Sports button puts the throttle and timing in a more aggressive map which makes it more fun to drive). The base model suspension's a lot worse, I think the shocks are garbage. The S sits lower, has bigger wheels standard (19 vs 18), nicer exhaust tips. The engine is obviously peppier on the S too. That said the non-S is still a great car.

BTW the back seats are fine for babies and very small kids. But that's about it. Also putting kids in the back will suck, any 4-door would be way more practical and most 2-seaters probably would be too.

You're not buying that car for the back seat. Don't even bring that up...just because it happens to have seating for 4, doesn't mean it's feasible to use it. You want the one with more horsepower and torque...so get it.

If you're concerned about hauling kiddos around, buy yourself the cheaper model and get a family truckster on the side that they can ride in and wreck with crayons and play-do or whatever else they eat...

You will be sorely disappointed if you're getting a 911 because you think it's got more room in the back. Even putting child seats back and forth would be a huge pain in the ass, I don't think i could do it on my 4S without fucking up the interior. Also the -S cars all come with full leather, which doesn't exactly mix well with kids. Think cleaning sticky stuff from the french seams...

If you have 50K budget, get an M3 sedan / M5.

He has his heart set on the Porsche. I would go M5 or S5 but he is not me. Spend the extra dough on the S. You will always regret not splurging for the extra speed and refinement.

^ This.

And you know you'll end up missing the extra 50 hp. You know you will. 😉

Yeah if you're going to buy a car that's completely impractical and a poor choice, you may as well get the best one available 😉 I can't imagine getting a 911 because your 350Z is too impractical - that's just funny 🙂

i'm a strong believer in kids in backseats of sports cars. How else will they grow up with an appreciation for quick acceleration and fine machinery? :awe:

My kids cried when I sold my '91 Eclipse turbo, but it just wasn't practical with 3 kids.

i would probably rather have the 997.2 base over the 997.S for the following reasons:
- DFI engine
- better sorted chassis, front end gets light on the 997.1
- more refined
- much better base radio (CDR30 >>> CDR24) and NAV should the car have it isn't from the stone age

although if I was really buying the car I'd stretch for a 2012 991 which I am thinking of upgrading to form my 08 987.1 boxster. i think of S vs base in terms of it being an option package, the only time I miss some of the power is when I track my car ~5x a year

and as far as putting kids in the back seat? hahaha. the 911 is basically the same size as the cayman and having looked at the back seats I consider it a parcel shelf replacement for the hatch/rear trunk

You guys ripped me apart, lol... Anyhow, I do have a daily driver, it's in the form of a 98 chevy S-10 with 3rd seat (for the wife of course, she has a Murano anyways). I just just like having a "toy" and even though the back seats in the 911 are small. The car as a whole offers a lot more room than my 350z.

I went out and about the other day looking at what's available in my area and seen to have found a Gem. It's a vanilla 05 911 with 30k in Guards Red, row your own, and clean as a whistle inside and out. I was able to get the dealer down to where I would want to be. I drove it yesterday and really liked the car. There is nothing anywhere in the country that can really touch it in value. 1 owner too with all the records.

FYI the 2005 997.1 has the older design IMS, you may want to plan for a retrofit
