I came across a small (about the size of a mac mini) celeron 700, and was wondering if i should go the carputer route. the only thing is my car is leased... i was wondering if I could do a clean install of a carputer system that wouldnt be too much of a bitch to remove when the lease is up. the car is a 2k4 accord v6.... i was looking at this lcd http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...6&item=5767368710&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW anyone know anything about this

I know someone here has a carputer, but I can't remember who at the moment 😱

it shouldn't be too hard to do a clean install, I can rip mine out and return the dash to stock within about 15 minutes. Personally I wouldn't do that screen, its not vga so it will be pretty grainy. Look for a lilliput for a good example of a good screen

ah n/m that auction is for the screen only, it says no inverter, controller or touchscreen controller

and before someone else does it this link is requred when talking about carputers Text

The whole carputer thing is kind of pointless. What do you want to do with it? Play MP3s? Just get an MP3 car stereo? DVD? Same thing. Anything useful that a car-puter thing can do can be done better with specialized products, without the ugly, half-done, home-made interface.

Kind of my thoughts on the matter, currently I want an AVIC-N2.

Lets see here, MP3 of course, DVD, Divx, GPS, ODBII gauges, audio mixer, internet. All for $500, priceless. Just a standalone dvdplayer will cost you what ? Over $1000

$2,200 and you get less features, but of course I'm biased since I have a carputer. Personally $500 and you can customize and upgrade it all you want sounds better to me. As a added bonus when I pull into my driveway it sync's my files with my home pc 😱

Street price is quite a bit lower, but certainly not $500.

Yes you can do more with a carputer but for me the AVIC series is fine (particularly the dual DIN model that has a permanently mounted LCD vs the motorized hidden screen). My Subaru has two DIN slots so it would fit nicely.
