We've been having some trouble with carpenter ants.. I know where the main colonies (plural) are: dead pine tree. I don't have the expertise to cut down the tree; I'm waiting for my brother to come over and help. (the tree is leaning... toward the house.)

Not those, but we do have fireants that like to get in the house sometimes, and my useless neighbours are far too stupid to actually, god forbid, do anything about them, so while my house is a veritable fortress, it's under constant siege from the idiocy surrounding me. I put some poison down on the weekend and took the liberty of walking a little bit into each of my neighbour's yards.

Carpenter ants eat wood, so that's not cool. Fireants do no damage but their bites are bloody annoying. Itch like a mother for days. I still have a scar on my chest from when one of those little bitches bit me last summer. He only drew my wrath, however, so not only do I poison liberally but I also kick ant hills when I see them on the road, during my walks, and look at the little bastards crawl around in a frenzy.

The image of you, Mrs. Skoorb and Baby Skoorb manning the defenses against wave after wave of incoming fire ants is hilarious.

amazingly, those baits that you can get at Walmart did the trick for me. I used to get them in the house, but since I've put the baits down, I've only seen 1 black ant inside my house in the last 2 years. Poisonous baits rock.

Carpenter ants are normally large and black. Fireants are normally small and red I think.
