What's wrong with that?
It wouldn?t be the first ten year contract in baseball.

Here is a page on baseball contracts, length and $ amounts: Text

Even Bektran doesn't deserve a ten year deal. He will be declining big time by 35 and will still be getting prime time money. Now remember, this could just be Boras trying to angle things right for his client: and he doesn't actually expect a 10 yr deal. But now if he takes a 7 yr deal it looks like hes "conceding" something and gets great money, better than for a 10 yr deal.

For a 30/100 man??? Give me a break!

The guy hits 38HR's, 104 RBI, and .267, and he wants a 10 year deal??

I don't care what he did in the postseason, there's no way he deserves 10 years...

He might get 10 years, but it will be nowhere near what Arod got.

Hehe...

I could see 5 million a season.. but only for 3 years max. 2 or 3 years as a 30/100 man doesn't infer the dollars or contract length he's seeking..

anyone else think Boras should be hit by a bus full of lepers?

Baseball owners won't also lay down for the guy. They're experienced business people. They know his stats and what the market "could" bear.

In other words, Beltran won't get the keys to the kingdom. ;)

I don't know if you follow baseball, but beltran is probably the most well rounded player right now. Aside from those power numbers, he has great defense, and also steals like crazy. Name another player that steals and hits 38 hrs last year?

I won't be surprised if he gets it. If I was a baller I'd want Boras as my agent. He usually gets what he wants.

Exactly. Offense, DEFENSE, speed, power and he is young.

Alfonso Soriano (qualified by saying he didn't do it in '04, but HAD done so in 2002-2003) and yet he doesn't make the big money either...

No question he's well-rounded, but to look for a 10-year deal, at whatever type of money, is ludicrous. i don't know that many teams will want to do it given what AROD has done (or not done).

Soriano made $5.4 million last year in only his third year in the majors.

Thanks for the dollar amount... though it was his 4th full season, and sixth where he say MLB action...

5.4 is more then reasonable for the numbers Beltran put up, in today's babseball economics.. it's the length I have an issue with..

$5.4 mil is very reasonable. Of course, it will go up considerably next year.
Beltran will garner more than twice that in a long term deal.

Bagwell is going to make $15m in 2005 and $17m in 2006.
Bret Boone made $8m in 2004.
Pat Burrell has a salary of $7m in 2005 going up to $14m in 2007. He's no offensive juggernaut.
Roger Friggin' Cedeno!!! $5m in 2005!!!
Jeff Cirillo, $7m in 2005.
Johhny Damon, $8.5m in 2005.
Jermaine Dye, $11m in 2004.
Darin Erstad, $16.5m for the next two seasons.
Cliff Floyd!! $13m for the next two seasons.
Jason Giambi, $71m for the next four seasons.
Alex Gonzalez, $4.5m in 2004.
Luis Gonzalez, $22m for the next two seasons.
Shawn Green, $32m for the next two seasons.
Ken Griffey, $52m for the next four seasons. Wow!
Todd Helton, 9 years/$141.5M, ends in 2012.
Bobby Higginson, $21m for two more seasons.
Eric Hinske, $13m, next three years.
Todd Hundley, $6.5m in 2004.
Charles Johnson, $9m in 2005.
Andrew Jones, $39m for the next three seasons.
Chipper Jones, $32m for the next two years.

And on and on.

Does it still look like Beltran is only going to get a contract for $5m per season?

hell no... I'm sure either Boston or the Yankees will throw a Brinks truck worth of cash at him, I'm not arguing that by any means... he'll become another overpaid babseball player, who, given history will either tank, or blow some part of his body up, be on the DL for the better part of 2 years, and then maybe come back as a solid backup in 2 or 3 seasons.. Granted, he could very well become a very good player, but history is NOT on his side..

I mean, Cliff Floyd!!! Chipper Jones at least has some tenure behind him (and all the WS rings... err wait, he was with Atlanta, right... :p).

And they say hockey economics are bad.. :D
