Hello:
I'm in the market for a car, and found one I like.
Is the Carfax service worth the price?
Thanks.

They are charging you to get a carfax report? The dealership I bought my Corolla from did it for free when I asked to see one.

I bought it before, it's pretty good. I even looked up my car that got stolen and it had my oil changes and such on it (dealer did them). Give it a go. Oh and the car I ended up getting had a miscellaneous repair at like 12k miles and I got the woman to admit she dented the bumper and had it repaired ;)

yeah it is if youre shopping around and likely gonna buy from individuals........all the carfax reports you want for 30 days for $25.
But like he said a dealer will have already ran it........Im shopping right now too and carfax allows me to see my local dealers and the cars they have just listed, dont know yet how accurate this part of it is though

Ive been suprised by how many vehicles have been in minor accidents

Err, of course it's worth it.
$25 for a check on an investment of thousands of dollars? How can it NOT be worth it?

What I meant was, always worth it, but don't rely on it, particularly on older vehicles.

While I've seen some vehicles that literally have dealer-provided oil changes show up on their reports, I know several people who intentionally have work done on their vehicle under the table to avoid Carfax noting the incident. I also know of a few cases where it didn't pick up some title laundering, but of course they have the available guarantee for that...

Why would you need a carfax on a new car? I could see maybe for a used car.

Bought a car last year and had someone on FW or here look up the carfax report. At that time, people with subs would look up a couple for you for free. Might want to check around for something like that.

actually is worth it, i recall someoen trying to buy a new car, dealer was really putting pressure on him to sign the papers, even offered a discount

turns out after a carfax like the car fell off the delivery truck and had significant repairs done to it. he quickly refused and went to a different dealership

Yes, it's definitely worth it. I have no problem recommending buying that report at all.
