cards face down but heat rises

The fan on my video card faces down.
It seems designed backwards since heat rises.
I was wondering if all (most?) pcie cards face down.
 
I'll quote what I said in the other thread.

Heat doesn't actually "rise". Heat seems to rise because temperature is the average kinetic energy of the atom's states. The higher the temperature, generally, the lower the density, and lower density material rises in higher density medium. Thus, "heat rises".

Heat is transferred via conduction, which is just direct contact.
 
Either way, the fan is pulling cooler air from the bottom, otherwise it would be pulling air in from the top, where the 'hot air has risen' 🙂
 
Yeah the current setup of most cards makes no sense to me. In a standard tower case you got the fans working against physics. Hot air doesnt move out the way it should. Loads of extra fans forcing cool all over the place works, but that makes extra noise.
 
As long as you're keeping with the down to up, front to back rule, everything should be staying relatively cool.

There should be a front intake fan on the bottom to bring in fresh cool air, which then makes it's way to the gpu's intake fan and the power supply's intake fan. Both the GPU and Power Supply expel hot air through the back of the card.

Also you might want to look at mounting the PSU up side down, if there is a grill for it on the bottom of your case, if the gpu fan is bothering you. It'll leave more cool air for the gpu.
