This shiny "new" 1070 just showed up. Not sure if a 3950x is also in route ( I expect not) so the NVIDIA 1070 will replace an ATI 7850 in a W7 system.

Do I need driver cleaner?

Anybody got a line on a cheap W10 Code? I don't think you can play Alyx on W7...

If you're going to do a fresh install of Win 10 then no need to do run DDU. If you plan on an in place upgrade then DDU is a good idea. Several of the tech YouTubers have codes for Win 10 keys, but if you are installing it on a system with a valid Win 7 key you may not need one. Your existing key may work. If not I picked one up recently for like $17. Check out videos from bitwit, Paul's hardware, or Greg Salazar.

Thanks

It looks like I am expecting a 3950x after all so I won't be popping the 1070 in the old W7 system.

It will be a clean W10 install. Gotta get a cheap code...

Simply plug the Windows 7 key into the activation dialog and it should activate fine. Install NVIDIA drivers and you will be good to go.
