Card Suggestion for Son's new PC

My son plays games like Wizards 101...some FPS...really looking forward to SW: TOR...

I was thinking of getting him a GTX 570 (Nvidia house here)...

But for what he does, and he is not concerned about having every graphic option maxed out, he plays for FUN (remember that?), can I save some money on another Nvidia card and still get decent graphics...?

His new PC will have a i-2500K in it...

Your suggestions?

Thanks!

Might as well go for the 560 Ti. At 1920x1200, it can max out most games at good frame rates. It's about $80-100 less than the 570.

I'd go with either a 560ti if you're stuck in the nVidia camp. He'll be able to play most games now with nearly maxed out settings. They have a nice EVGA on newegg for $235.

I'd personally go with a 6950, the performance jump is pretty large and it's the same price.

Either one should satisfy his needs.

SW: TOR isnt that demanding is it?
If he plays stuff like Teamfortress ect, he really doesnt need a 560ti to do so.

GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) Superclocked 1GB
~140$ after MIR.

Just overclock it upwards of the 850mhz range on core, and that should be more than enough for him.

if he needs more kick than that.... a 6950 would be the next card to consider (the extra vram, should be why you pick it over a 560ti, though I believe its abit faster too).

Radeon HD 6950 2GB ~232$ after MIR.

The stupidest thing I like about the AMD cards is that Steam makes it very easy for me to update my drivers. It's one of those things that I rarely bothered with prior to that feature being added.

I would get a 6950 so then you can have an integrated household 😛

But really the 6950 is the best bang for buck in your range at the moment.

Wizard 101 will run on anything, SW: TOR is bound to need something a lot faster.
That said a GTX 570 does sound like overkill. I'd just look at getting something mid range with 1GB of memory - 460, 560, 6870, ...

i agree that if you're firmly with NV, 560Ti is great recommendation. if you wanted to cheap out, gtx460 1gb and oc, is still a great card for your purposes.

6950, however, is really the best bang for the buck right now imo. but if you wanted to cheap out again, with ati, 6870, or even used 5870 are also great.
