Around 3 days ago my pc woudn't boot up, no beeps could be heard and nothing would come on the screen. But after a few hours it did but would load the OS only in safe mode. Trying to load in normal mode gave me a blue screen after the windows load screen with some atidvag error. So looking for advice around the net I uninstalled the ati drivers and
now windows would start normally but with colour corruption all over the screen. But since the day after that I'm getting 1 short beep followed by 3 long ones when trying to start the pc which according to my manual indicates a faulty video card.
So should I take it my gcard alone is at fault here and buying a new one would solve the problem or some other component too maybe behind this? Does a faulty gcard cause pc to not boot up at all with no beeps to be heard as was how this problem started out? Also prior to this, I used to get the message "power ext cable not conneted to 9800se" whenever
the pc would abruptly restart.
Kindly help :(

I would *guess* that 70% of video card problems are power related...

I just replaced my ATI 9800 Pro (moved it to the wife's machine actually) but occasionally it would go through the same 'power not connected' problem. After fiddling with it off n' on for a week, I decided to reconfigure my y-splitters and used a different connector and *BOOM* end of problem.

So, I would check out the power situation first.

Secondly, you might have a hardware conflict going on. Personally, the only way I've found to get rid of problems like this is to move the card to a different slot, boot up, and let Windows find it.

This works great if you have more than one slot for your video card, but....

Once you're sure you don't have power problems, I think I'd install a different video card in your computer, let Windows find it, yada, yada... then put your old card back in, let Windows reinstall it, and see what happens.

That's the best I can come up with, off the top of my head!

Hang in there! Problems like this can be exasperating... ;)
