Card for Flight Simulator X?

I have an AMD X2 3800+ computer with 2GB of ram, running at stock speeds and I need a video card that offers the best bang for the $$$ and that matches my system (i.e. not so powerful that my CPU becomes the bottleneck.

I haven´t decided what monitor to get, but it is 90% likely that I will get either a 20" normal or widescreen (1600x1200 or 1680x1080.)

What card would you recommend? I´m going to buy the card and the monitor in beginning of January so I´ve one month to decide.

Well I would say an 8800GTS would be a good candidate in bang for buck, I think there are some deals floating around. At this time however, I don't think there is a rig on Earth that can run this game at high rez with everything cranked.

If the 8800GTS is out of your price range, the next best thing would be a 7900/x19xx series as they can be had for relatively cheap nowadays. Anything less and I think you would be disappointed.

Both of my 7900GTO & GTX run like crap in this game.
Slide-show frame rate is the term I used to describe it.

Is my CPU fast enough for the 8800 series?

I read somewhere that the CPUs are the bottlenecks for flightsims rather than the GPUs, but I don´t know if that is true today.

I have the same x2 3800 like yours too.
No the GPU is thee bottleneck, not the CPU.

Thanks for your suggestions.

I noticed that the X is NOT multi-threaded, and I´m wondering if it will use both cores if I run it in Vista?
