Card for CAD/CAM, Pro/E

Hi, want to knwo if Radeon 9100 128MB is enough for these applications.?

If it is not enough, which card is? my budget is no greater than $70.

I am in the situation should i switch the card i am using(R9100) to my office and buy one for myself (mostly for browsing)... or buy a new videocard for office anyways.. however, my budget is quite limited , only $70 . I have Matrox G550 in my mind, i heard that it is good for video editing, but don't know if it can handle the 3d parts in CAD, Pro/E.

Try a ti4200. I think it should be quite a bit faster in CAD than a 9100.

I would strongly suggest a nvidia based card fir pro e over an ati. The open gl performance is very poor, a ti4200 will out perform an 9800 in most CAD programs.

you dont have any idea what your talking about. i have a 9800 and run autocad, inventor, pro e for work and a 4200 wouldnt touch the performance i get.

ya i'm not sure why people still cling to the old argument about ati having low opengl performance. ati has had respectable opengl performance for quite some time, heck they even recently took the top spot on glexcess.

a 9100 should treat you fine faye. a ti4200 would be a bit faster, but i don't think it would be worth upgradeing and i don't see any going for 70$ or less these days, at least not new

Try running with gourade shading on, then have a go. You would be very surprised. Of course if you havent got both and tried both - then you cant comment. :Q

just to let you know, unless you are using heidi drivers in autocad, its using software opengl thats why gouraud shading goes slow.

if you have autocad 2004 it comes with a generic hardware opengl driver that will work better than the software driver. you just have to enable it.

be generic i mean it will work with any open gl cards. most high end cad cards have their own heidi drivers that only run on their card.

using that driver and my 9800pro i get the best autocad performance i have ever seen and i have been using acad since rel 8.

inventor, pro e and other 3d modeling software runs better than acad does using this card too
