Which would use use? I have tried Mozy and it was nice but I'm leaning towards Carbonite due to a 1/2 coupon code I saw on fatwallet.

I think both are pretty invasive, they like to have local software on your machine that auto-backsup. Which I guess is the safest, but I'm paranoid about programs and processes using up precious resources and clock cycles.

I prefer the backup my stuff on flash drives and portable HDDs. You need a remote backup?

I do dvd backups and have a Windows Home Server that backs up daily, but I am paranoid about losing my photos

I've never tried Mozy but I just started using Carbonite a few weeks ago. So far I like it. I haven't noticed any system/network slow down during the backup and it keeps out of my way. I also like the remote file access feature that lets me get to my backed up files from any PC.

For $50/year unlimited I'm more than satisfied. As far as I'm concerned, without a remote backup you don't really have a backup.

I use Mozy and backed up 32GB of data in about 3 days. Seems to work just fine for me @ ~$4/mo.

Used Mozy for about a year backing up around 40gb in total. Wasn't bad, only got behind when I added a lot of MP3 files, and only cost $50/year for unlimited.

I was able to recover all lost data for my mother when her computer crashed as well. I need to sign up again on my new computer. This is a good reminder :)

It's pretty much dependent on how much data you have.

I have my wife's office set up with datadepositbox. They're backing up data from 2 computers for $2 a month which is the minimum charge. That covers up to 2GB of data. Obviously, they have little to back up.

I don't know how the others work, but we can specify how many versions of a file to store. It seamlessly disposes of older versions as it backs up. The backup files don't balloon that way. There is also a utility to assist in eliminating orphan files that no longer exist on the computers.

They're probably all very similar.

I'm using the Mozy 2GB free right now. Its good enough for crucial files. I only have 500MB of things I cannot lose.

I have another 20GB of things I would rather not lose but can live without. I keep those synced up between two computers at all times. Haven't lost them yet.

I bought 2 years of Mozy. I think when this runs out I will try out carbonite just to see.
