Carbonated Soft Drinks are harsh...

Scarpozzi

Lifer
I've been hooked on Coke, Diet Coke, etc....since I was a kid. We had Pepsi machines in my Jr. High and High School...and while I didn't drink it excessively, I still had an occasional drink for years. I recently started drinking more water. I have a filter in my fridge but found that I like to buy bottled spring water and refill the bottles with the filtered stuff. I drink more of it that way instead of drinking it out of the tap. (I might drink 5 or 6 bottles of water after work each night)

Now, when I drink Diet Coke or other soft drinks, they fill me up really fast. The carbonation is harsh and they remind me of battery acid. I still like drinking them, but it's obvious that I feel worse now that I just drank a DC. Has anyone else made this switch and seen a difference in how they feel? Discuss.

Most soft drinks weigh in with a pH level between 2.0-4.0......so you aren't far off from battery acid...hell gastric acid in your stomach ranges from 1.5-2.0 on the pH scale

after a year of eating dining hall food at a college, i've lost a few pounds from eating fresh deli sandwhiches every day... all my jeans are now pretty loose!

True. If you switch to whole wheat bread rather than bread made with enriched flour, you'll lose even more. Deli sandwhiches are a good choice compared to burgers and fried foods.

I know what you mean. I stopped drinking soda several years ago when I started getting serious about running. I still crave an ice cold Pepsi every now and then but if I have one it's just overwhelmingly sweet and harsh (that's a good word for them). Water is so much better.

I'm no chemist, but I think pH and molarity are relatively independed. As in, you can have a 20-molarity acid with a pH of 5, or a .5-molarity acid with a pH of 1, and the pH-1 acid won't be as corrosive.

But I may be wrong and will welcome a correction if I am.

Oh I know this I'm just saying leave something in Coca Cola for a while and it'll start to dissolve away....

I drink pop when I want to because I enjoy it. I am not about to deprive myself of things I enjoy. Moderation is key.

All I drink now is diet mt. dew. This is an improvement for me since I would have a liter of non-diet mt. dew everyday.

Yeah, I didn't mean to switch but I went for a month without soda and it never tasted the same since.

Had a friend who drank a case of Mt. Dew a day. Then he passed a kidney stone at 16 and that cause him to rethink the drinking of that much soda.

now you should quit drinking soda. 🙂

i'm 22 and i quitted more than a year ago and i'm happy i actually quit drinking soda.

We had an experiment in my chemistry class to demonstrate just how acidic Coca Cola is by having a pound of hamburger meat sit overnight in a vial full of coke. The next day it was all dissolved into a mucky liquid. Add a few enzymes and you would have a stomach in a can.

oh sh!t!!!

*runs scared* *cowers in corner*

When I started doing more weight lifting a few years ago to gain mass I quit drinking soda. Now my fav drink is Izze out of Boulder,CO. Since that time I gained and have maintained 21lbs of lean muscle and the gut I was starting is gone.

Soda does nothing good for you. This is also in combination of a good food diet, which I never ate fastfood before anyway, but I cut down on American style glutton eating.

Caffeine! That does something for me.

I can't stand coffee so Soda is the only way I can get some caffeine to help me stay awake during the day.

I drink soda BTW, but a case a day is just nuts.
