Carbon Steel Knives

Is there ANY way to get rust off of a carbon steel knife? I...uhhh...was cooking with it, and i forgot about it and left it in the sink, and there are spots of rust and weird coloration on it. Is it going to be like that for life, or is there something i can do to it?

Naval jelly, or steel wool if it's not too bad.

Hmm...it's not exactly hardcore rusting. It just has weird colorations on it and stuff, and if i left it around with some water, it would probably be more rusty. What is naval jelly?

naval jelly gets rid of rust.
If it is not too bad, you can buff it out with any sort of polish like brass or silver.

Naval jelly....goopy stuff you can get at the hardware store, it dissolves rust, then you rinse it off. It's an old time product.
