I've just moved into a new house with a gas fireplace. My wife doesn't like the smell the fireplace puts off, I figure most of the smell is because its a new fireplace. Anyway I hear I need to buy a carbon monoxide detector. I was at the local walmart last night and saw these two models

detector 1
detector 2

Does anyone know anything about these things? If so which of these are the best, or please let me know if I should look at a different brand or model.

Thanks,
David

My parents have detector 1 in their house. It has saved our lives before. We had a gas leak in the house and it went off very soon after. If we didn't have the detector we would have all died in our sleep for sure. It's very sensitive and easy to install. I'm not familiar with the tabletop models. Myself I went for the smoke/carbon monoxide detector in one that I picked up at lowes.

As long as they're UL listed, any of them should be fine.

If you can get one with a battery instead a of plug, that's a better option.

Currently I have a battery operated one. I've had a couple of plug in models in the past and they burned out. After power outages, they come on blasting when the power comes comes back on.
I had one several years ago that actually started signalling the alarm after a power outage. We couldn't get it to stop and we ened up calling the fire department. They came and tested the air and it was fine. They said the unit was defective.
