Anyone here a carbon fiber expert? minor oopsie on my ride at last week's race. Hoping someone can advise on scuff vs. crack. Looks and sounds like a scuff. I have a pic but not posting unless there's someone that can help.

TIA.

I'm not an expert but I have modeled with carbon fiber before. Can you see a crack or do you suspect a crack.

PITA to post pics.. anyhow I'll post it. if this is a dead link let me know. streaks and shine are from cleaning. scuff and under the 3 are the areas of concern.

look like scratches over proper cracks. doesn't appear to be any delamination. not exactly easy to tell though.

i've had a little experience with composites, but my specialty is metals.

Mind if I send your picture to a friend. He is an expert. Made composite RC sailplanes for a living started riding composite bikes, had a bad accident now works modeling composite UAVs

The brand and model number would be good to he'll know the layup.

I'd really appreciate that actually. It's a 2016 Cervelo P3 (https://www.cervelo.com/en/triathlon/p-series/p3/specs and geometry). The spot in the picture is on the right chain stay. I know nothing about the layup though unfortunately.

Thanks a ton. I'm not sure what other info might be helpful but if there's anything I'll be happy to provide.

I did a sound test with a quarter and it sounds normal. No flex when pushing (gently). I can feel the scrape or crack or whatever it is with my fingers too. Hoping its just the clear coat....

Took it in to the shop today - Cervelo guys in there said it was just the clear coat. Thankfully! I'll keep an eye on it nonetheless.
