I know that carbon black (amorphous carbon) exists in powder form. Can a solid brick be made from the substance without using a non-carbon binding agent? Or would that require a high concentration of a single carbon allele?

If you apply the right conditions (i.e. temperature and pressure), you can put it together. Of course, the properties would change as a result of the processing, so what you end up with would be different than what you started with. As always, it can be done, but it depends on what you are really trying to accomplish when deciding if it's a good idea and what the best way to go about it would be.

Hmm, okay. Interesting. Depending on the amount of heat and pressure required, it almost seems as if it would not be worth the trouble. Though I seem to have found my answer here . . . dry cell battery cores huh? Interesting. I need to read up on that.

You just want a big brick of soot?

Yes, because soot is awesome.

Depends on the level of heat and pressure.

How about just mixing in some pure water and letting it dry while subjected to ultrasound to align the particles better, baking if necessary to speed up the process?

Anthracite perhaps, but it still has impurities. The best anthracite is about 98% carbon.
