carbon based conductive grease

I just bought a tube of the stuff and my first attempt at unlocking my 1800+ has failed. Has anyone unlocked their athlon with carbon based (instead of silver-based) conductive grease?

Is this an old CPU? Recent ones are already unlocked.

What are you trying to do; get the higher multipliers?

It's a palomino core, so I need to unlock it to get higher multipliers (besides, I've tried upping them in my bios but my cpu still shows up as an 1800+ at the boot up screen).

I tried a second time but still no go. I'm pretty sure the grease isn't conductive enough. Using a multimeter, the probes have to be nearly touching for the resistance to approach 1k. According to Tom's the resistance needs to be lower than this. Oh well.

Err ,you didn't mention if you had filled the pits ,have you?

Btw I wouldn't use any kind of grease if I were you ,it has a tendancy to spread (possibly leading to shorts!:Q) ,& in the longer run the surrounding dust & heat will leech the grease dry & lead to failed bridges.Use silver paint instead

Its nuts that some websites advocate grease!
