People travelling to Canada or Mexico for insulin has been happening for 25 years, with more and more every year with the rising prices. Its terrible. There have been a couple of hearings in the House regarding this, but so far nothing has moved forward. But, the hearings were last month. As a type 1 diabetic myself who has been lucky to have good insurance (I pay $50 for 3 months supply at an over the counter cost of $2600) I really hope something can be done.

Definitely need much more publicity and uproar on this. It's hard to fix this problem because a lot of $$$ is involved and with politicians lining their pockets from big pharma, they have no incentive to change. Instead, they are incentivized to maintain the status quo.

Florida is working on a bill to allow people to buy cheaper drugs from Canada. Big pharma is fighting it by putting a scary video on TV.

https://www.politifact.com/florida/...ad-misleads-florida-plan-import-drugs-canada/
The message is from The Partnership for Safe Medicines, comprised of dozens of groups including Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, or PhRMA, the lobbying group that includes major drug companies.

Looks like Trump is on board.
Trump directs Azar to work on Florida drug import plan
President Donald Trump on Monday directed Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar to work with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on the state’s drug import plan, according to Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.).

My wife takes Librax for GI problems. It's been around since the 60s and been generic for a long time. It costs $2.00 for 60 tabs up until a few years ago. The behind the scenes cost shot up to several hundred dollars. They wanted my wife to pay $40 for 30 tabs through our health insurance. I did some investigating and found out the pharma company that made it was bought out by one of the larger pharmas run by Pharma Bro.

If things get really bad down here I will move into my snowbird neighbor's basement in London, Ontario.

That's indeed part of the problem... Lack of competition. When you give the proclamation that we can't import drugs because it would be too dangerous, that's just scaring people into not having competition.

I'm not saying import drugs from some random place where it's crappy to live - but from other western countries? Absolutely.

It is not widely understood but huge amount of our drugs or their active ingredients are sourced from China and India. Drug companies intentionally make this murky by making sure they only have to list their domestic addresses giving the impression of domestically made product even if relatively few of them are.

Sorry, but this isnt a priority for anyone who CAN do something about it.

edit: Let me clarify. There is a bill sponsored and cosponsored by R's and D's, but its sitting in the House going nowhere.

If you actually follow the link in your links to the article:
https://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/426106-grassley-to-test-gop-on-lowering-drug-prices?rel=0
and then actually read that article, you would see that most, if not all, of the opposition to this bill comes from Republicans.

The world's most punchable face.

Just curious, what was the name of the company (that made the Librax), that was bought out by Shkreli?
If it was Valeant, I am not sure he was involved with them. I think it may be another asshole.

These companies that raise prices on expired patents, just because they can, need to go fuck themselves.
