Hello,
Can anyone help to to understand car wiring. I want to tap into a 12V power source to power a light. But I am a newbie are car stuff! can anyone point me to some online references or better yet, let me know what wires I can use? I have a 94 Saturn SL1.

Thanks a lot

Simple. You need power and ground, with a fuse in there too. For a simple light you may be best off to tap into the existing wiring. What kind of light?

It is a led light, I want to use it in the back of my car. Near the rear seat floor... can I tap into say the car radio wires to get it? Can I splice into it without messing up things and making them lose power? And what kind of fuse do you suggest?

Thanks

If you have to come here asking such basic rudimentary questions then PLEASE find someone who knows what they are doing to help you ( in person, not on a forum) so you don't burn your car to the ground.

Get out your owner's manual and find a switched fuse, for instance, the radio fuse. Then, pull the fuse out, slip the exposed wire (about 1/4 inch) into the fusebox with the fuse and you should be all set. You need two wires to make it work, one from the fusefox and one goes directly to a ground.

I'd be careful of splicing into the existing harness.

You'd need to wire a resistor inline with it. I assume you want that cool looking lit up interior. *IF* thats the case go with a neon bar, you can get'm fairly small and they come pre wired for 12V applications.

it's easy bro...don't get discouraged. If you're not using resistors, then wiring in a single LED is as basic as wiring gets.

Until you dont use a resistor and burn up your LED
