How long does a coat of wax usually last for? would a day of rain ruin it? or does it last for a few washes, waxed my car the otherday and theres mud splatted all over it, if i wash it will i wash the wax along with it?

Maybe a day, maybe a month.

Helpful!

You might want to give us some other details... brand of wax has a lot to do with it.

Anyway, one day of rain isn't going to ruin it. You likely won't remove it until you use soap on it.

I figure a coat of wax will last say 2 months.

Depends on how you wash that mud off. If you use an abrasive soap like dawn, then its coming right off. Just water, then no, not really.

I'm far from being an expert on this and probably shouldn't reply, but my understanding is that a wax job will last longer if harsh soaps aren't used. A lot of people use dish detergent. That is really bad.

There are soaps specifically for washing cars. That would be best. Based upon my understanding anyway.

Depending on the wax, from one month to several months. Waxing every 2-3 months is a good range, for the more obsessive every month works too.

If you have used dish soap to wash your car, then you should be forced to shower in degreaser and see how it feels.

Well i put the car in for a valet and they waxed it so im really not sure what wax it was, i used a jet wash to try and get the mud off but its left like mud watermarks if anyone see's what i mean, so i think it needs a more thorough clean, just caution about using sponges and things on it

I think I'll side with the guys who make the wax, no offense

Dish soap

3. I would definitely recommend you remove the wax buildup on your paint. Just use Liquid Dawn (hand dishwashing liquid) as a car wash. It has a high alkaline content which cuts right thru carnauba wax, paraffin, silicone oils, etc. This will get your paint finish squeeky clean and wax free.

You want to get a soap specifically for washing cars.

Mix with water according to the directions.

Wet the car down and keep it wet while washing.

Use a sponge and turn and rinse it often. To clean the mudded area, keep the hose running over the area while using the soapy sponge to clean the mud residue off. You want to turn over and rinse the sponge repeatedly to keep from grinding the dirt it picks up back into the paint.

I haven't hand washed a car in decades. There may be something better to use than a sponge. I know that the old wash mitts we used to use are a no-no.

Look what I found!

The wash mitts are back "in." The wool ones anyway.

I use dawn every time I want to apply a new coat of wax, but use my wolfgang/maguiers during the other washes.

I use Meguiar's NXT tech wax on my black Lightning and it lasts about 6 months. I use the NXT car wash too. They both have a wonderful smell.

* I've read bad things about using Dawn. Google for more info........
