Sucks.

What do you expect??? The car is being dragged through a metal rail. Of course it will scratch.

Not to come off like an arse - but get tires that fit properly with a rim protector and this won't happen.

-edit-
oh, and keep your tires properly inflated. You're low.

-edit2-
those tires are too small for your wheels.

-edit3-
WAY TOO SMALL TIRE FOR YOUR WHEELS, WTF WERE YOU THINKING?

Move along grandpa...

The only gas station car wash I go to is a brushless one, and you only have to put your wheel into a little metal thing like that so that the machihne knows you are ready to start. However the metal piece is round the entire way and I have never had any scratching at all. You just sit in the car for like 8 minutes while it's turned off and the war wash does the rest.

I wouldn't take my car to one of those washes where you move it through along a metal rail like that where brushes go all over your car.

It's not like it will hurt the wheels. If the gas station won't help out, then just leave them alone. They still function correctly!

hah!

same thing happened to me, and the first thing i did was come on ATOT to cry about it. http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...hreadid=1405374&enterthread=y&arctab=y

funny thing to note is that i bought a new wheel to replace that scratch back in 2004, but last week i bent the "new" wheel going over a speed bump too quickly and had to replace it with the old scratched wheel that's been sitting in my garage....oh, the irony.

lol contact a junkyard and get one in new condition that costs a fraction of that.. unless shell actually is willing to pay for it.

Shell will respond with a $850 bill for damages casued to their car wash from your rim. Net loss of $20.

I just had mine scratched up a bit in a car wash today. Not nearly as bad, but still pisses me off. I normally wash by hand, but my apt complex hasn't turned on our outside water yet :(. Sucks man, I feel for ya.

Lesson to learn here:

Gas station car washes SUCK.

If you value your car, take it to a place that handwashes it. It's really only a couple bucks more and looks THAT much better.

Those damn soapy pieces of rubber will put minute scratches in your paint. Go to gas station car washes enough and it will start to show.

yup, I hate those stupid ones that curb your freaking rims!
