car wash messed up my rim!!

I went through a local SHELL car wash...

here is what happened to my rim...

According to my measurements the bar that keeps ur car from getting of course (?) is what caused the damage, this also occurred while the car was being pulled by the car wash in neutral with my hands of the wheel. I did not feel any impact on the steering wheel or seen any vibration at all, as I was pulling up to the machine to activate it, i got out to make sure i was going to make it without hitting anything, I came in at a good angle, so i find it very unlikely its my fault :\ there are also cameras but i don?t think they pointed on a good angle to catch what happened. I contacted shell and we will see what happens, the gas station is privately owned though.

yes all stock, its an altima SE-R so its not a large car or anything

Lesson to learn here:

Gas station car washes SUCK.

If you value your car, take it to a place that handwashes it. It's really only a couple bucks more and looks THAT much better.

Those damn soapy pieces of rubber will put minute scratches in your paint. Go to gas station car washes enough and it will start to show.

Not to come off like an arse - but get tires that fit properly with a rim protector and this won't happen.

I went to a car wash today that had the same exact setup.

Embassy Auto Wash. $18 for them do do a car wash ultimate, whatever the hell that includes.

My rims would have been messed up but my tires prevent my rims for getting curve rash. I got pissed still.
I will stick to my touch-less "laser" wash down the street. Much better and half the price + wax.

They will not pay for your rim. They have signs and disclaimers posted all over the place.

Take 5 minutes to learn how to sand that down and remove the scratches. After the scratches are smoothed out, I would bet a low power sand blasting would match the spots to the wheel or at least lessen the intensity of it. I did it a few times to the rims on my old car. Chrome rims = no go, but yours are dull in color so it might work.

they are forged alloy.... and do have some shine to them when clean, i dont think they will ever look good after being sanded.

Unless of course the rims are clear coated; in which case it will look even worse if he does what you suggested.

Blame Nissan for those stupid rims that jut OUTWARDS!

That being said, live and learn. I curbed my rims at the ATM drive through. Ended up getting some replacements pretty cheap off eBay and sold my olds ones. Ended up only costing me $100 in the end.

They're definitely low, but the stock size is 225/45, so I believe that they are the correct size.

Tough to see the depth, looks like the wheel is outside the tire.

I appologize for being so harsh and I would be ticked if my wheels got nicked like that. Sorry DarkMan, you just see a lot of really bad wheel/tire combos (function) out there on the Internet and I jumped on you. Sorry.

tires are low-profile and not too small, but they do need air. you also need to invest in rim guards.

You're probably right if they are stock.

See if you can work something with the carwash, doubtful.

But in consolation for my earlier arsehood here's a suggestion.

Winter wheels/Tires using your stocks! You now have a very valid excuse purchasing some summer wheels/tires! Sweet.

these are summer tires heh and i like the rims.. cuz they make the car somewhat unique, its part of the SE-R altima package which is pretty rare.

Same thing happened to my stock rims 5 years ago. No warning about it beforehand; just the usual "antennas may be damaged" kind of sign.

Sounds good. As you can tell I'm trying to make up for my asshattery...

For a few hundred bucks it might be a good idea to just get another wheel. When the time comes to get new rubber, get some good shoes. Good tires are not that expensive these days and price does not equal quality.

I drive 40K per year and can attest to tire quality/price and the importance of keeping them at proper pressure.

If those rims and that package are rare, then you will indeed get more money for it when time to sell comes.
