car won't start. i turn the key and it barely sounds like its going to go, then dies. all lights come on, headlights, indoor lights, etc. clocks been reset on the dash, and i don't know what to do. help!

Lights take a _LOT_ less amperage to run than the starter. If it's cranking slowly, check the battery with a multi-meter.

i went back to the car, and i held the key in the start position and it just clicked consecutively, clickclickclickclick.

i guess the next thing is to try a jump. and if that doesnt work, i guess i can conclude the starter needs replacing.

IT IS NOT THE STARTER GOD DAMNIT. LISTEN TO ZENMERVOLT, he knows what the hell he is talking about. Your battery is dead (many many reasons for a dead battery) or the cables are corroded or lose which a jump will not cure.

This has been a public service announcement from Evadman.

Had this happen with my car. Although the battery seemed really tight for some reason it wasnt connected properly to allow enough power to start. I suggest maybe cleaning the terminals and then removing the cables and putting them back on tightly. If you hear the clicking noise and everything else in your car turns on then the battery should be just fine. Its either the starter or the cables.

If it turns out to be the battery get your alt checked as well.

Autozone should do it for free.
