Car trouble

So, I was on my way home from work the other day when my brakes decided to start grinding. I immediatly realized that this is bad, and brought the car to the mechanic. Apparently, the front brakes both need replacing, as well as some other part that is down there. and (though I knew this before) my rear tires will soon need to be replaced also. My car is banged up already, and it seems kind of a shame to put money into it, but oh well I suppose. On the bright side, I am going to vegas next week, so with some luck I could win the money to pay for the car (yeah right) 🙂

what kind of car is it? how much are you spending? with a little hunting around you can find a decent car for not too much....

Rear tires? Unless you're putting snow tires on the drive wheels, you should only replace tires in sets of four. It can really upset the handling of the car and it can make it dangerous.

Try having a ball joint break on you on the highway.

Try an inner tie rod end.
Or a u-joint on a RWD truck.

<shudder>

I should've said... worst feeling i've ever felt... so far...let's just say i'm not looking forward to anything breaking at high speed. 😱

It's an '91 Honda Accord, it's gonna cost like $700. It's really not worth getting a new car just now as I am still a student and cant really afford it.

$700 for front brakes ?

Go somewhere else now.

I charge $35 to $50 per corner for labor when doing disc brakes.
Pads should run you less than $50 and rotors less than $40 apiece.

(50)(4) + (50)(4) = 400
and then they said there was some other part down there that needed replacing... I dont remember the name of it, but it is like $300.

You really should keep track of that stuff... they'd keep reaming you up the @$$. My dad got his oxygen sensor checked on his camry at the dealer... while they were at it they checked the brakes and told my dad his pads were paper thin and it would be dangerous to be driving around like that in the rain... :Q ...they claimed that it would only last for another day or two. my dad just told them he has no money with him so he'll just bring it back the next day... so he gets home and takes off the wheels... turns out there is at least 3-4 months more left out of those pads... 😕

You stated in your original post that it was your front brakes.

(50)(2) + (50)(2) = $200

In actuality it would be ;

Labor $70 to $100

Parts
Pads $50
Rotors $100
