I could probably get away asking for more, but is it fair?
Plus it was a teenage girl who hit me didn't look that well off driving an old beater corolla. I don't feel it's right putting a financial burden on someone just because I could.

That feels like stealing something just because I could get away with it.

$1800 is probably what I could've gotten for my car on a really good day.
Pics of the girl? She must have been a serious piece of ass to let her work you over like that.

You feel bad getting the proper value of your car, plus time spent looking for something new? That's insane. There is a reason totalled cars are typically valued over book. It's more than just the cost of buying a replacement car. Are you going to buy another car worth exactly $1800? No, you will likely spend more.

Ahahaha she actually would've easily paid me the $3000 repair estimate if I didn't tell her that my car isn't worth nearly that much.

What's even crazier is that my decision didn't stem from my desire for the "serious piece of ass," but rather to feel good about getting the proper value for my car, and not milking the chick, just cuz I can.

And no, just because you want to buy a replacement car that's worth more than your current car, it doesn't make you entitled to that additional amount.

$1800 is fair for you and her, glad it all worked out. Dealing with insurance can be a PITA

Now let's get to the important part... Accident pics so we can see the difference after the frame is straightened and one of those miata superchargers is installed!

Yup, this certainly felt less of a hassle than dealing with insurance, and it makes me feel good to see some good spirited souls out there. ^_^

Here's a pic. As you could see, the frame is slightly pushed in. But other than that, it doesn't look like the replacement parts would cost more than about $300 or so at a pick a part. The bodyshop quoted $325 to fix the frame. I'm also decent at painting. Although there does seem to be some mechanical damage that's sprouting up. Just a few hours ago, the exhaust started getting really raspy. Also when I make a sharp left turn, there's often a loud snap on the underbody of the car. I'm going to need to get it more seriously checked out to decide if I should just sell this as it is or part it out and get a replacement.

You must have the wrong insurance. Any time I've had to file a claim in the past, there have been no issues at all with mine.

Yeah that's fine if you have collision, but on inexpensive vehicles you don't need collision so if someone hits you you're dealing with their insurance who is probably some shady insure-anyone place.

Last time I had dealings with an insurance company they gave me two offers, one for market value of the car if I turned over the title of the car to the insurance company or a reduced offer if I kept the car. If the OP had worked with the insurance co he probably wouldn't have gotten $4500 and been able to keep the car, he'd probably have gotten $1800 or so.

Is 18 $100 bills thick to you?

Seeings as I don't often carry cash, yes.

Unless someone requires cash for a F2F purchase, I have no reason to handle that amount of cash. If someone handed me an envelope with 18 benjamins, I would consider it thick relative to the value of the bills inside.

In other words, 18 singles may still be a "thick" envelope, but it doesn't seem as thick as an envelope with 18 100s.

Now... u mad bro?
