car tire question

i am browsing for new tires and i was just looking at tirerack.com for ideas. i looked up the tires that were already on the car to see how much they cost since they were on the car when i bought it. they listed the tires as slanted and unslanted. my question is. whats the difference. it costs like 20 bucks more per tire for the non slanted ones. please explain this to me since i am a noob.

That's just the letters on the sidewall. Go for the cheaper one if it doesn't matter to you.

thank you, just one more clarification point. whats the difference in them. is it like the raised white lettering vs black?

Uhh, no its not...

As i understand it, its the way the grooves are arranged..
Unslanted tyres have lateral grooves (or treat patterns), and slanted have grooves that are basically, slanted, or at an angle.

I think the main difference is how they channel water off the tread and i think slanted tyres are a little quieter too.

I'm pretty sure that in this case, tire rack is talking about the sidewall.
