car tire came almost completely off the wheel!!! should i bring it to a body shop asap?

Hey guys... a real crappy thing happened today. I was driving out of my apartment with my fiancee's car with a flat tire and the tire came off the wheel i brought it back into the apartment parking lot now. Funny thing is, i ordered 4 tires from costco over the weekend (the threads on my tires are almost gone) and they should be there in a few days for installation. Is it ok to wait a few days to tow my car, or should i bring the car to a body shop immediately?

You drove on a flat tire and didn't expect something odd to happen? You probably screwed up the rim and will need to buy a new one, now.

put the doughnut on it and wait till your new tires get in them have them changed at the local tire shop.

look in the trunk of the car. pull up the covering there and there should be a doughnut tire in the bottom. you might have to unscrew it from the car , jack up the car with the jack thats in your car too. remember to loosen the tire nuts before you jack up the car, jack it up take off the bumk wheel, put the doughnut on , let the car down, tighten the lugs and then your done.

ok i'm going to check to see if there's a spare in my car... do auto body shops usually have spare tires you can purchase from them though in case i don't have one?

body shops dont usually deal with tire replacment, youll have to go to like sears, tire wharehouse, town fare tire to get a new one, or the ones you ordered put on. depends where you are.

kinda odd u wouldn't have a spare. only cars without spares are those that have run flat tires. and urs obviously doesn't. donut is small tire. its obviously dinky, and well it would be useless i bet since u didn't know. they need to be pumped to 60 psi, and people tend to never check em in their trunk donuts come insmaller cars. normal sedans tend to have full size spares which are superior. donuts are max 50ish mph

and never drive on partially flat tire, guess u learned that one.

If you fill the tire up with air does it just go flat immediately or is it more of a controlled leak? You could try filling it up and driving a bit and then filling it up again if you have a mini compressor thing and if the shop isn't too far.

Otherwise if you have AAA, you can use them. But if the tire is totally flat, I wouldn't let the car sit on the rim, put a jack stand underneath the front tire area to keep the rim off the ground.

the tire came off the rim...i highly doubt it's gonna hold air :laugh:

Tires have to be run at a insanely low pressure for them to pop off. We are talking like <10PSI.

LOL I hope you are being facetious. I mean I would expect most people to know how to change a flat, but it doesn't make sense for all guys to know almost everything about cars, I make a lot of money which allows me to substitute my lack of knowledge with someone who is skilled in the trade. you can get a used rim from a junkyard for $10 or less. You can take the used rim to the place you buy your tires from and have them put a decent used tire on it for pennies. I would much rather ride on a used tire than a new doughnut any day.

Yeah, you're right. I thought he had said he brought it back and got the tire back on...

So anyway, put a jack stand underneath it, don't let it sit on the rim. Then you can wait unti lwhenever you want to tow it and jsut take it right ot wherever you are going to have the new tires put on.

If the tire came off the wheel, and you actually drove on the wheel, then odds are, the wheel is ruined (as will be the tire) and will need to be replaced before you put new tires on. Unless it's something "special", you can probably pick one up at a wrecking yard fairly cheap. (less than $50)
The "donut" that was referred to, is the little imitation spare tire than most cars come with in lieu of a real spare tire. Built to give you enough tire to get to someplace where you can repair/replace a bad tire. They are only supposed to have a 50 MPH /50 mile max rating, so DON'T go careening down the freeway at high speeds, nor go far on it.
