<<As for getting an older car, been there, done that many times and just am burnt out. Really the right way to go though.>>

Yeah, but for $30,000 you could buy one that was perfectly restored already... It'd be nice and reliable then with no restoration crap... You know you want to. Listen to the Dark Side. :)

I was kidding about the mustang :)

I saw a firebird gun it on the highway onramp yesterday and felt so inadequate in my 110 horsepower econobox :(

The 2003 Mustang Cobra is going to be announced officially in a week. It's going to have a supercharged 4.6 putting out 390hp, and a T56 6-speed. I'm not sure when it'll be going on sale, or what the price will be, though.

Edit - looks like it should be onsale this summer, for under $35k (hardtop)

<< << The only other (obvious) competitor in this field is the Mustang GT, but I am assuming you have already ruled this out as you did not mention it.>>

No, I havent. Am planning to look at one even though I am not a Ford man. Pretty cars.

:)

if you are thinking Mustang at all, look at the Cobra, Bullit, Mach 1 if it happens, etc... Also Saleen (maybe over budget), Steeda, etc...

I'm thinking of a twin turbo or blower equipped Cobra.

I was going to say what notfred said but I'm assuming you probably don't want to wait until September to purchase it.

'02 Mustang GT's are decently fast - not as fast as a Z or a T/A obviously and not as much torque but it can hit low low 14's and has a huge aftermarket for it. Plus imho they look better. (Saw a Rousch Mustang Bullit today - that looked soooooooo sexy in the green with the Rousch body kit and exhaust) With a '02 Cobra you'll get performance a tiny tiny bit under a Z but overall much more refined. (Not to mention IRS) If you want whiplash-inducing torque though a LS1 based car is still the way to go.

I'm glad someone mentioned a Lightning.

For me, that is the ultimate in utility and sport. I wish I could get one, but alas, I'm a poor college student.

Thats what I'd get anyways... :D

Probably only those who surfed over to Dictionary.com or really enjoy Reader's Digest's "Word Power" feature. :p

I don't know...390 is pretty weak for a blown V8. NA LS1s are putting down 325!?

My friend has a 2000 SS and it's cool. Definately a real mans type of car... bmw and stuff seem like stuffed shirt cars or chick rides. I guess if you're a stuffed shirt you should get a bmw but if you're a real man, get a SS. You'll miss the v8 in any of those cracker jack cars. Luxury sport cars? Luxury or not, unless you get into the expense of a M5 or a porsche, the luxury is compromised by the slowness.

theBestMax: Your car looks really good. I didn't know the '93 where in that body style.

I'd suggest getting an older style Trans Am, preferably the turbo 3.8L V6 or the V8 if you really want it. Then drop the money you saved by getting an older one, into making it look EXACTLY like KITT from Knight Rider. Then post the pictures on AT for my viewing pleasure.

Alternatively get an older Buick GNX and give me a ride in it. I've only seen one GNX so far and I nearly creamed my pants.

Best idea yet. :)

Is there some reason why I haven't seen a Vette mentioned yet?

Edit: Oops, nevermind, glossed over your mention of owning 7 previously! Also, my first thought was to just keep the one you have. A bird in the hand type thing...

Damn straight. Who wouldn't want a KITT replica? Add NOS and make it your TURBO BOOST button.

Im Baaaaaack!

Thanks for all the comments. Im going to respond in mass so I hope i dont miss anyone.

1. Cobra GT - Love it if only it was available before 2/28, kind of my deadline for buying. Have to have a car before then.

2. 93 was the first year of the current body style as seen on my web site. Buick supercharged v-6, yum!

3. Keep the one I have is what Id like to do plus buy a new one but since Im not rich I can only afford 1 driver and I have a $$$ offer I would be a fool to refuse.

4. Older? - Well, I addressed that before but just not practical at this time. Need a reliable, everyday car so a new one is in order.

I know, I know. :D (Worth a repeat :) )
