Car Thread #18781281

So I've been doing some thinking about what I want to buy when I finish up my degree and I am working. I don't want to overextend myself so I'm thinking of a budget of $50k tops.

Since I got my first PC a very very long time ago I've been an "upgrade" addict.

Now there are a lot of great vehicles for $30-50k, but I suspect many of them are unpleasant to upgrade. (I.E. very costly, or poor selection of compatible parts.)

Basically I'm looking for something with a comfortable interior, some luxury, but also lends itself to modification. The types of modification would be strictly performance, no rice. Improved cornering, ride, acceleration, and so on.

Any advice regarding a vehicle, or what my priorities should be for replacing parts would be appreciated.

Granted I don't know so much about cars, and would never spend that much money on one....However, I always liked the IS300. it seems to fit the conditions and it is also very reliable I'd imagine. I remember reading something about modifications in another thread.

One of the many many versions of Mustangs that are available. Easy to work, plenty of mods available.

Same goes with a Corvette.

I didn't have any student loans to pay, and I spent 17k on a car. :Q

Corvette Z06
BMW M3
Lotus Elise
Porsche anything > Boxter S
Obligatory WRX STi

maybe the new infinity m45? i know the maxima (what i drive) is really upgradable, so I'm assuming the m45 also will be.

If I was to buy a car, and wanted a faster car, and wanted to spend money to do it, I'd just buy a faster car in the first place. upgrades are great and all, but why not just get a faster car instead of dealing with down time while upgrading and possible mistakes causing big budget damage?

Hah. /thread indeed. That basically covers most of the cars I was thinking about. Was making sure I wasn't missing anything.

Mustang, Corvette, M3, STI WRX, Evo, S2000...

If you're really taking open suggestions on which 30k+ car to buy, though - exactly how much did you want one?

Does this have to be a new car? There are plenty of cars that aren't made anymore that more or less meet your criteria....well, at least the "performance" part of it.

Luxury and performance are mutually exclusive in SOME areas. One example would be that "luxury" GENERALLY equals floaty suspension + an overall heavy car, due to all of the gadgets and creature comforts...whereas a more "performace" oriented car would be lighter overall and have a much stiffer ride, with more emphasis on handling than ride quality.

There are balances (G35, etc), but you sacrifice some things on both ends, IMO.

That said, you might look at a TT MKIV Supra, LS1+ F-Body or Vette, any V8 Mustang, FD RX7 (that one's pricey to upgrade though), WRX STi, Evo, etc.
