Car suggestions needed

My roommate is looking to replace his current car('91 Acura Legend) and since he works all day I told him I'd ask around for suggestions. So far he's looked at an Acura RSX and a diesel Jetta.

Anyway he's looking for a car in the $10-20K range and has no problem with going used.

Here are top things he's looking for:
1. Good gas mileage.
2. Manual transmission.
3. Must seat at least four but doesn't have to be a 4dr.
4. Looks good. Now I don't know exactly what he means by that, but I took it to mean "looks sporty"

I know absolutely nothing about manuals so any suggestions would be great.

Used RSX-S. Although they're discontinuing that model for 2007. 🙁

I'd suggest a 2006 Civic SI but I don't think you can find many used.

nissan maxima, bmw m3 e36, subaru legacy gt, audi a4 1.8t

my pick would be the bmw, driving wise the others cannot compare

Seconded!

Another option is a used or new late model Subaru Legacy. The non-turbo engines get okay gas mileage and all are pretty roomy & nice inside. He might be able to find an 05 used GT with the 250HP turbo engine, but it would be pushing his budget.

AWD + IIHS top safety rated FTW!

Look for a Lincoln LS V8. Very very good looking and driving car (near perfect 50/50 weight distribution).

No manual option, but the automatic transmission can be shifted manually (still a slushbox, but you can change gears at will if you put it in that mode).

V8 up front, rear wheel drive in the back, great looks and great interior. With your budget it would be my choice in a heartbeat.

here is an autotrader link to a 2006 LS V8, it's above your range, but a 2003 or 2004 will be right at what you want to pay. Link

I think you could get the LS V6 with a true manual, also. It'd be better on gas but less powerful.

I wouldn't buy new in that price range.

If he wants sporty, look at a Mazda RX-8.

If he wants a sedan, an '02 or newer Audi A4 1.8T. Add an APR ECU for $600.

Anyone find irony in that the only one who probably read the entire post is named confused1234? Well, Serp too.
