Hey stereo people,

I have 2 12" subwoofers in my trunk, but the box is definetly ugly and it's way too big for them, so I was thinking of getting a slick box for the woofers. Any suggestions? Any sites with lots of boxes? I am thinking off transparent boxes :)

try mounting them with no box, the trunk will act as one unless you have a hatch back

This would also work, just make sure the rear deck is well sealed and supported.

But only if the subwoofers in question have been built to "free air" specs. The average subwoofer requires an enclosure of a specific volume. FYI.

Bigger is ALWAYS a flatter response, especially once you reach 10 times the VAS.
"Free air" is really a marketing term. Any driver will preform closer to ideal in a box 10 times its VAS.

I know I've seen some clear enclosures before. I just can't remember if you can get them pre-built, or if I saw pictures of some homemade one on a forum somewhere.

edit: Actually, I think I was thinking of bandpass enclosures rather than a completely transparent one.

edit2: These are cool, but they're all sold out.

What subwoofers do you have?

Also, what amp do you have?

k.

Another thing to consider is the type of music/bass you listen to the most. Do you want deep, rolling lows, or tight punch lows?

Hey again,

I found out the subwoofer is a Pioneer TS-W302C ... I have 2 of them... and I am gonna put them in a 1999.5 Audi A4 :) So if you have any suggestions, I would appreciate it.

Thanks.

Glen, how many people do you think can actually appreciate a low Qtc... not many, that's for sure.

MichaelD does have a point though, free-air subs should typically have a lot more Xsus than Xmax, and high Qts's and Fs's help tremendously.

Just mount them in a really really small box. Like take a box designed for 6x9s and cut the holes bigger, and mount them in there. That should look really cool. :D

You want clear, GOOD box?
Text
There very good quality, and very much not cheap.

As to free air versus boxed, I prefer boxed. Glen prefers free air. Both have advantages and disadvantages. Its really your call there. Anyways, if I were to get a plexi box, I would, hands down, go to Gately Audio. Period. And alot of others do as well.
