I'm looking to upgrade the stereo in my Porsche 944.

Here's my pics on speaker sizes:

Front: 6.5" (either component set or combined, either one will work, depends on $$$)
Rear: 6x9" (or is 6.5" better? Doesn't make any difference as I will be making boxes for them (stock openings require you to remove the rear quarter windows to get access)).
Subs: 2x12" (haven't measured yet, may need to be 2x10" - will be in a custom built (by me) bandpass box)

I'm going to be running them off a Sony head w/ a 4x52w amp in it, so I'm not planning on a 4 channel amp (at first at least), but I will need a 1 (or 2) channel amp for the subs.

What's the best I can get for $300? I'd like something that looks and sounds good or I won't do it (I'll wait till I have more $$$). Also being that it's a Porsche I'd rather not get "rice" (the subs will be visible from the outside of the car with the box I'm going to build).

The box will look something like This.

Pics
Trunk - The subs will be in the middle (but with the seat folded up (you can see the pin where it stops when it's up). The rear speakers will be put in small boxes on top of the fender wells either side of the subs.
Useless Rear Seat - You can see why it's called a 2+2
Quarter View - Just a nice picture of my car.

Why? Would just a ported box be better? I've always heard that bandpass is more efficient.

Speakers.. you can get Infinity References.. 652i($60) up front, 6593(three-way $90)/2(two-way $70)i in the rear.

That's what I've got in my car (got the three-way in the rear) and they're real nice.

As for the subs, amps.. no clue as I don't have em.

Go for whatever you want. Bandpass might sound good in your car if it's a hatch. :)

Those are nice for the price, but I will probably put the nicer ones up front (ones with better high's & mids) and the cheeper (but still plenty of low to mids) in the rear. The rear seat is all but useless (can barely hold a grocery bag), so I'm not concerned with entertaining rear-seat passengers.

Infinity Ref 605CS 6.5" Component Set for the front
Infinity Ref 6953i for the back

I HIGHLY recommend an amp. the 4x52 watt headunit you have, probably doesnt put out more than 20 watts RMS tops.
get something like a 75watt (RMS) x 4 channel amp.

if you want SQ then go for a sealed box, will sound clearer and tighter. bandpass or ported will be louder with less power.

Good point....if there's $$$ left, a 4-channel amp is a possibility. Would I be able to get enough volume out of a sealed box? I normally don't listen to the stereo loud, but when I take the top off I have to crank the stereo to hear it.
