I just got a Sony CDX-3160 (older CD-deck), and just have the bare stereo (no manuals, ect.).

Anyways, I need help wiring it into my car....which wires are which?

I have:

(I'm guessing these 4 are for wires)
Yellow
Black
Red
Blue

And for speakers:
Grey (no stripe/stripe)
Purple (no stripe/stripe)
Green (no stripe/stripe)
White (no stripe/stripe)

Anyone know where I can get a wiring diagram? Also, my understanding is that 2 of the channels are dead (not sure if it's both fronts, both rears, both left or both right), but if I determine which two it is, would it be 'ok' if I just split the working 2 channels to cover all 4 speakers.

Also realize that this is going into a beater car and I'm not looking for OPTIMUM quality, just something that works (I am listening through 3.5" factory speakers :().

You can figure it out using trial and error. Hook up the black to ground, red to 12V and perhaps ground the chassis. Connect a speaker's negative to ground and connect one of the four speaker wires to it's positive. With a CD playing, turn the controls all the way to front or back, then right or left. Note which is loudest and label the wire. Repeat two more times and you're done!

The yellow is probably dash light connection and the blue is probably antenna power.

Red is usually power, yellow is constant 12v, blue is remote turn on (if your hooking up an amp), black is ground.

The purple/purple with stripe, grey/grey with stripe, green/green with stripe, and white/white with stripe are for the speakers. Normally there is a sticker on top of the deck that shows what each wire is for.

If the factory speakers are still installed in your car, then just look at what color wires are connected to each one, and that will tell you which color is for what speaker position.
